Hennepin County was founded in 1852 and was created by taking area from Dakota County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hennepin had a population of 1,265,159 people. This is an increase of 9.78% since the last Census (which gave a population of 1,152,425 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hennepin represented 21.73% of the total population of Minnesota.
