Genesee County was founded March 28, 1835 and was created by taking area from Lapeer County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Genesee had a population of 405,702 people. This is a decrease of 4.72% since the last Census (which gave a population of 425,790 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Genesee represented 4.31% of the total population of Michigan.
