Marion County was founded in 1834 and was created by taking area from Washington County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Marion had a population of 19,237 people. This is a decrease of 2.94% since the last Census (which gave a population of 19,820 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Marion represented 0.46% of the total population of Kentucky.
