The origin (or the toponymy) of McPherson: Named for General James Birdseye McPherson (1828-1864), served in the Union Army and was killed at the Battle of Atlanta.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for McPherson was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the McPherson post office opened in 1873.
