At the time of the 2010 Census, Mount Carmel had a population of 86 people. This makes Mount Carmel the county's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 86 people, the population of Mount Carmel decreased 18.87% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 106 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mount Carmel was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Mount Carmel post office opened in 1840.

We also found Mount Carmel in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
