The population of Diamond represents 0.02% of the total population of Illinois (which has 12,830,632 people), making it the state's 448th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,527 people, the population of Diamond increased 81.41% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,393 people).

We originally found mention of Diamond in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Diamond was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Diamond post office opened in 1872.

We also found Diamond on a map titled Rand McNally Map (1881).
