Welcome to Capstan ...So far, we found very little information about Capstan. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Capstan to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Capstan, please Contact Us. Capstan would have been located within present day Heard County<2>. The location of Capstan has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Capstan, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1911. While the community is gone, the present day location for Capstan is 730 feet [223 m] above sea level.<4>. Time Zone: The area where Capstan was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel west from Capstan (for example, toward Roanoke (AL)), you will soon leave Eastern Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).
