Escambia County is one of the original counties of Florida and was founded July 21, 1821.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Escambia had a population of 303,343 people. This is an increase of 3.03% since the last Census (which gave a population of 294,410 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Escambia represented 1.84% of the total population of Florida, making it the state's 15th most populous county (out of 67 counties).
