Welcome to Columbus ...

So far, we found very little information about Columbus. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Columbus to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Columbus - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Columbus, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Columbus , we believe that it would have been located within present day Suwannee County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Columbus, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Columbus was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Columbus still existed, it would have been in the (386) area code.

Adding Columbus to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Columbus was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Columbus, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Florida's counties, including Suwannee, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
