While we don't have a date for the founding of Hugo, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1871.

The town was incorporated June 21, 1909.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hugo had an population of 776 people. This is an increase of 6.3% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 12.32% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hugo had a population of 730 people (or 13.35% of the total population of Lincoln County). This makes Hugo the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Hugo represents 0.01% of the total population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 167th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 730 people, the population of Hugo decreased 17.51% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 885 people).

We originally found mention of Hugo in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hugo was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Hugo post office opened in 1871.

We also found Hugo in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
