The town of Creede is located in Mineral County<1> and is the County Seat for Mineral County.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Creede, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Creede: Named after Nicholas C. Creede (1843-1897), the prospector who discovered the Holy Moses Mine.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Creede has a population of 309 people<2> (see below for details).

Creede is 8,850 feet [2,697 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the altitude of Creede is about 1¾ mile [or ~2¾ km] above sea level.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Creede had an population of 309 people. This is an increase of 6.55% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 18.04% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Creede had a population of 290 people (which is 40.73% of the total population of Mineral County). This makes Creede the county's most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 290 people, the population of Creede decreased 23.08% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 377 people).
