At the time of the 2010 Census, Canon City had a population of 16,400 people (or 35.02% of the total population of Fremont County). This makes Canon City the county's most populous community.

The population of Canon City represents 0.33% of the population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 34th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 16,400 people, the population of Canon City increased 6.28% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 15,431 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Canon City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Canon City post office opened in 1860.
