Buckskin Joe was settled in 1859.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Buckskin Joe: Named after Joseph "Buckskin Joe" Higginbottom, who was a trapper, prospector and early settler in this area.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Buckskin Joe is 10,700 feet [3,261 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Buckskin Joe is about 2 miles [or ~3¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Buckskin Joe was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time
