While we don't have a date for the founding of Breckenridge, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From The Origin of Certain Place Names,<2> the origin of Breckenridge is described as "Named for John C. Breckinridge, vice-president of the United States."

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Breckenridge has a population of 5,040 people<3> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Breckenridge had an population of 5,040 people. This is an increase of 11.01% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 109.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Breckenridge had a population of 4,540 people (or 16.22% of the total population of Summit County). This makes Breckenridge the county's most populous community.

The population of Breckenridge represents 0.09% of the total population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 77th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,540 people, the population of Breckenridge increased 88.54% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,408 people).
