Welcome to Index ...So far, we found very little information about Index. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Index to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. The location of Index has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Index, you might consider that their post office opened in 1890. While the community is gone, the present day location for Index is 1,400 feet [427 m] above sea level.<4>. Time Zone: The area where Index was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel east from Index (for example, toward Euthtilloga (GA)), you will leave Central Time and cross into the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT). The location where Index once stood is in the (256) & (938)<5> area codes.
